What is GreenPalm?
GreenPalm exclusively operates the Book and Claim supply chain option for the RSPO . The certificate offsetting system allows product manufacturers who use palm, palm kernel oil or any palm based derivative/fraction in their products, to offset that physical oil by purchasing the equivalent amount of certificates. Certificates are sold by RSPO certified growers/producers; they have the option of selling physical oil via segregated supply chains and/or converting their tonnage into GreenPalm certificates.
How does GreenPalm work to protect the environment?
GreenPalm is a completely new approach to tackling the problems caused by a complex international industry. A straightforward, flexible and easily implemented system, it will start driving improvements immediately.
GreenPalm provides a market for RSPO certified growers/producers to sell and receive a premium for their certified tonnage. Compliance with the RSPO principles & criteria prove they are environmentally and socially responsible, are not destroying primary forest, and are developing plans to continually improve their operations.
GreenPalm’s ultimate aim is to put itself out of business by ensuring all the world’s palm oil growers/producers are sustainable. But in the future this innovative and simple system could be adapted to help other global businesses towards sustainability.
Can consumers support GreenPalm?
Yes you can. By buying products that carry our logo you can support GreenPalm. Manufacturers and retailers who are supporting RSPO certified growers/producers will mention GreenPalm on their website, social media pages, CSR reports or even bear the GreenPalm logo on their products. Supporting companies that are offsetting their palm usage via the GreenPalm option will send signals to the market that sustainable palm oil should be the norm and not the niche.
Who can make claims about GreenPalm?
Only those members have redeemed certificates
(certificates cannot be resold) can claim that they support RSPO
certified sustainable palm oil or palm kernel oil. There is an option for retailers to make claims associated with their private label suppliers who have bought and redeemed GreenPalm certificates. The retailer is still required to be a member of GreenPalm.
How will honesty and integrity within the GreenPalm programme be ensured?
Only growers/producers certified by RSPO auditors as complying with the RSPO Principles and Criteria are allowed to register and sell (offer) certificates on the GreenPalm market. View our registered certificates owners page detailing the volume of certificates registered per year by RSPO certified growers.
As of 2011 and under instruction from the RSPO, all GreenPalm members who have redeemed 500+ certificates within a trading year will automatically be audited. The GreenPalm audit does not require a physical site visit. Retailers making GreenPalm claims are automatically audited.GreenPalm audit details.
The RSPO maintains a central database where producer volumes are registered. When a producer registers volume on the GreenPalm system their balance is reduced in the central database. The producer’s physical movements of oil will also reduce the balance on the database.
