100,000th GreenPalm Certificate is traded…

This means that since trading began just over 12 months ago, over $100,000 ($1 per certificate) has been raised to support the vital work of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil – the RSPO. Good News!

It also means that producers who are members of the GreenPalm programme, who have met the RSPO’s stringent sustainability criteria, have earned over $1 M of additional revenue for their efforts. We hope that this will provide a strong encouragement for others to follow suit.

Who is buying GreenPalm certificates?

Of course none of this would have been possible if purchasers had not begun, in significant numbers, to buy GreenPalm certificates. No fewer than 15 manufacturers have already redeemed GreenPalm certificates – and you can check out who by visiting the ‘Redeemed certificate owners’ page, within the ‘The market’ section of the website  www.greenpalm.org/the-market/redeemed-certificate-owners

In addition the GreenPalm membership list is growing every day. There are currently more than 60 members, including major UK retail multiples, high profile manufacturers and food service organisations. Why GreenPalm?

Any organisation which makes or sells products containing palm oil or palm kernel oil can support sustainable production through the GreenPalm programme. That said it’s important to realise that for some users and retailers it is currently the only viable RSPO endorsed supply chain option.

Over 60% of the palm oil and palm kernel oil we use is further processed, before it is delivered to manufacturers or retailers, into blends, fractions and derivatives. However the accumulative costs of segregation for additional processing are, in many cases, prohibitive. The GreenPalm certificate trading programme is, as a result, the only viable sustainable option for many users at the present time.
