GreenPalm at IFT 2011, New Orleans
GreenPalm will join some of the biggest names in the food world at the IFT Food Expo in New Orleans, USA, from June 12-14. We’ll be there to answer questions about palm oil and sustainability and to talk about GreenPalm’s role in supporting change in the palm oil industry.
We’ll be sharing AAK’s stand, booth 5951, at the 2011 Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Food Expo, from June 12-14, at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center. If you’re there, please come and say hello!
RSPO figures show GreenPalm is leading the sustainability drive
The RSPO has published figures that show the move towards sustainability in the palm oil industry is being largely driven by GreenPalm certificates – instead of physical sustainable palm oil.
Of the five million tonnes of RSPO-certified sustainable palm oil produced to date, 2.65 million tonnes have been sold – with 70% traded via GreenPalm certificates.
In March 2011 alone, over 269,000 tonnes of RSPO-certified palm oil were traded, with GreenPalm accounting for 245,000 of this volume.
Clearly, this shows GreenPalm is working well and is a popular choice for businesses wanting to play a role in giving genuine support to sustainable producers.
There is still a long way to go, however. Of the five million tonnes produced, around 2.35 million remain unsold, and we need to ask why. Is it because businesses are working towards having their own supply chains and systems certified for segregated palm, or are they unaware there is a simple route via GreenPalm?
Either way, we must pull together to stimulate demand in order to ensure that certified sustainable producers are rewarded for the efforts, and that others follow suit.
That’s one of our challenges for IFT, and we hope to offer the food industry leaders plenty of food for thought!
