MILLIONTH GREENPALM CERTIFICATE TRADED!
GreenPalm has hit a very exciting milestone – we have traded a million certificates! Two years after our first certificate was traded, the numbers speak for themselves – one million tonnes of sustainable palm oil have been directly funded by manufacturers and retailers throughout the world. That’s one million tonnes that otherwise might not have been produced using methods approved by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil.
By joining GreenPalm and trading certificates, palm oil producers have earned an additional $9m for their efforts – a clear incentive to continue working sustainably and a powerful message to other producers that the sustainable route is a commercially worthwhile one to take.
A global team effort
Of course, we would not have been able to trade one million certificates without the many businesses around the world that have joined GreenPalm. Retailers and manufacturers have gained positive publicity and earned consumer confidence for their support of sustainable palm oil production, while helping to spread the message globally about this important and urgent issue.
Thank you to everyone who has helped to make our first two years so successful.
GreenPalm on tour
Fresh from our appearance at the International Baking Industry Exposition in Las Vegas, USA, we’ll be travelling to Paris, France, for SIAL 2010, where we shall be telling visitors our exciting news – and explaining how they too can join the drive towards sustainability in the palm oil industry. More mills certified
Since our last newsletter, five more mills and two more growers have become certified by the RSPO – there are now 71 mills and 19 growers. In fact, our last newsletter mentioned our target of 3.5 MT of CSPO produced by the end of the year and this now looks even more realistic, with the total currently at 3,088,075 MT – as well as 699,777 MT certified sustainable palm kernels.
