Updated volume figures from the RSPO has seen a significant jump in the available supply of certified sustainable palm oil & certified sustainable palm kernels, total volume now standing at 5,792,163 MT.
The increase in supply has come from the certification of 11 new mills, 3 of which have come from 2 new growers adding a further 474,403 MT of CSPO & 95,300 MT of CSPK. New growers include REA Holding PLC - PT Rea Kaltim with 2 mills certified and Sampoerna Agro Group - PT Aek Tarum with 1 mill certified, both growers certifying mills based in Indonesia.
Existing growers who have increased their volumes include Sime Darby Plantation Sdn Bhd with 1 new mill certified in Malaysia and 5 mills in Indonesia increasing their total mills certified to 33. Both Wilmar International Ltd & PT Agrowiratama have added a further mill to their Indonesian growing operations.
Total available volume now stands at:
CSPO: 4,718,946 MT
CSPK: 1,073,217 MT
Production Area: 966,184 Ha
Growers: 26
Mills: 113
The increase in mills certified from Indonesia has resulted in a more balanced volume split between the two major palm growing countries. Taking the current CSPO total of 4.7m MT , Indonesian mills now accounts for 1.9m MT, Malaysia still being the largest with 2.3m MT, the remaining volume coming from certified mills in Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Colombia.
With supply already outstripping demand the additional volume will further put pressure on companies using palm and its derivatives to show their support to the ever increasing number of growers who are committing to sustainable palm oil production.
