Substantial supplies of RSPO certified palm oil now available

More producers achieve RSPO certification…

The best news of all is that several new palm oil producers (with many more in the pipeline) have now passed their rigorous RSPO ‘Principles & Criteria’ sustainability audits. They are: United Plantations Bhd, New Britain Palm Oil Ltd, Sime Darby Plantation Sdn Bhd, PT Musim Mas, PPB Oil Palms Bhd, Kulim (Malaysia) Bhd and IOI Corporation Bhd.

This is the result of a great deal of dedicated hard work and determination, both on behalf of the producers in question and of the RSPO. As a consequence end product manufacturers and retailers now have access to well over 1 million tons of RSPO certified crude palm oil. What we need now is for our manufacturing and retail colleagues to step up to the plate and support the production of sustainable palm oil by placing their orders!

Supply of GreenPalm certificates increasing…

There are also more GreenPalm certificates now for sale on our web-based trading platform: http://www.greenpalm.org and their number is increasing all the time. We therefore also urge members to support the programme by buying GreenPalm certificates. By doing so they will be directly supporting the production of sustainable palm and palm kernel oil, and will be able to tell their customers and the wider marketplace that they are doing so. Two of our members have already taken that first step, achieving excellent PR coverage as a result.

First claims…

GreenPalm member Danisco has begun to offer palm-based emulsifiers, backed by GreenPalm certificates to its customer base. In addition Henkel, the global business which produces laundry, homecare, cosmetics, toiletries and adhesive products, has become the first GreenPalm member to make an on-pack claim.

The use of palm kernel oil in Henkel’s new Terra Activ range of cleaners is covered by GreenPalm certificates, and the GreenPalm logo appears on the new product packs. It is the first mass market consumer product to bear the GreenPalm logo and as such it is an important milestone for GreenPalm.
