GreenPalm has reported a record trade of palm kernel oil (PKO) certificates during the month of October 2013. November saw a further record broken by the sustainable palm oil certificate-trading programme, with unprecedented figures for the number of palm oil certificates sold.

Working with palm growers committed to sustainable farming, from large plantations to small holders, remains a primary objective. This is the message that GreenPalm will be taking to the 11th Annual Roundtable Meeting on Sustainable Palm Oil (RT11) in Medan, Indonesia from the 11th to the 14th November, 2013.

GreenPalm, the sustainable palm oil certificate-trading programme, will attend the Sustainable Cosmetics Summit in Paris from the 21st to 23rd October. The message GreenPalm will be taking to the conference will be the need for the beauty industry to continue its support in addressing the sustainability issues surrounding palm oil.

For the past five years, GreenPalm has been working hard to support sustainable palm production through its certificate-trading programme. The initiative allows RSPO-certified growers to sell certificates to retailers and manufacturers to off-set their use of palm and palm kernel oil.

GreenPalm, the sustainable palm oil certificate-trading programme, has announced the first trade of PKE (Palm Kernel Expeller) certificates between Keresa Plantations in Malaysia and Dutch dairy cooperative, CONO Kaasmakers.

Semi-solid at room temperature, palm oil and palm kernel oil are amongst the world’s most versatile raw materials. As a result they can be found in one in two supermarket products including many baked goods; from cookies and pastries to bread and pies. In fact, the use of palm oil in the USA has tripled in the past decade, particularly in the baking industry where it is sometimes preferred as a healthier, trans fat-free alternative to traditional bakery fats.

The first European summit for sustainable palm oil "Certified sustainable palm oil in Europe: taking the market transformation to the next level". The summit takes place on the 3rd September in Berlin.
