A glossary of terms associated with RSPO certified sustainable palm oil and GreenPalm.



Certified:
Either certified against the RSPO principles and criteria for growers or supply chain certified for manufacturers and processors.


CSPKO: Certified Sustainable Palm Kernel Oil


CSPO: Certified Sustainable Palm Oil


Derivative: a product derived from palm oil by further processing or blending, for example fatty acids, fatty alcohols, fatty methyl ester, fatty nitrogen compounds and glycerine.


FFBs: Fresh Fruit Bunches – clusters of palm oil fruits


Fraction: a product produced from palm oil by fractional distillation for example palm olein and palm stearin.


GP: GreenPalm – one of four RSPO sustainable palm oil supply chain options.


IP: Identity Preserved – one of four RSPO sustainable palm oil supply chain options.


MB: Mass Balance – one of four RSPO sustainable palm oil supply chain options.


OMD: Off Market Deal – certificate trading partnership between a grower and a manufacturer or retailer


PKE: Palm Kernel Expeller - fibre that remains when oil has been extracted from the oil palm kernel.


PKO: Palm Kernel Oil - oil which has been extracted from the white kernel, or nut, of the palm oil fruit.


PO: Palm Oil - Oil which comes from the fruit of the oil palm tree, Elaeis Guineensis.


RSPO: Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil - established in 2004 to promote the production and use of sustainable palm oil.


SG: Segregated – one of four RSPO sustainable palm oil supply chain options.
